The
F Word
How to Survive Your Family
By Louie
Anderson with Carl Kurlander
In his
first book, Dear Dad, Louie Anderson wrote letters to the alcoholic
father, now dead, who greatly damaged his family, in an effort to
make peace with his memories.
In
The F Word, Louie is trying to come to peace with the family
that was left behind after his father's death. Louie came from a
family of 10 brother and sisters.
Although
Louie Anderson is a well-known comedian, he reveals that there are
dark sides to everyone's nature, discussing in personal things depth,
such as the time he almost committed suicide. He also discusses
why that was not such a great idea and how that death would have
affected so many more people that just him.
We all have families and we all have
to deal with them every day. In his book, Louie lists at least forty-nine
ways to deal. One of my favorites: "Remember we are all in
the same boat." When times are rough, we think we are the only
ones who have traveled these waters. But, generally speaking, all
the members of your family are probably in the same boat.
Louie's book is filled with a lot
of humor, but at times laughter is meant to cover some very deep-rooted
pain that sometimes can only be shared with someone as close as
a family, someone who is traveling the same road.
