All You Need to be Impossibly French
A Witty Investigation into the Lives, Lusts, and Little Secrets of French Women
by Helena Frith Powell
All You Need to be Impossibly French is the perfect book for a Francophile like me. I loved this memoir. It
was so interesting to look into the lives of French women. It is good to be thin, beautiful, intelligent, and
knowledgeable in the arts and music. It was amazing to read how accepting of marital affairs the French are and why
French woman usually don’t have best friends. I could totally relate to the need for retail therapy -that there is a
major importance in shopping when times are rough, rather than bingeing on fattening food. With all the amazingly
rich foods and wines, they do not do excess -being fat or drunk is a faux pas.
Helena Frith Powell's memoirs are about being British-born and going to live in France, which is so different than
being born French. Reading about her "turning French" was interesting and insightful. It made me want to know more.
It was a fun book to read and Powell is very witty. |
