Fight Back and Win
My Thirty-year Fight Against Injustice -and How You Can Win Your Own Battles
by Gloria Allred
Read by Gloria Allred
Fight Back and Win is a combination of a memoir and a self-help guide. Gloria Allred
uses her personal experiences as life lessons on how to fight back and take control of
both personal and professional battles. As in the era she grew up and raised her child in,
she sounds very feminist and this may be why some consider her past goals as a way of one-upping
the men in her life and profession. Her present work shows her true attempts to promote equality.
With her professional background, one would think Allred came from a well-off family, but
she didn't. She can - and does - boast of being a self-made, infamous lawyer. She married,
divorced, had a child, put herself through school, pushed her way into a membership with
the Friar's Club, suffered rape, hemorrhaged and nearly died after an illegal abortion. She's
taken on many groups and helped many individuals. The most recent is Amber Frey, who Allred
thinks of like a daughter. The case is discussed first and in detail, which gives rise to
wonder about this being the reason for the memoir. Allred is known for protecting her clients,
but sometimes the tougher battles need explaining and/or malice needs to be revealed - this
case seems to be one of those needing both.
Allred narrates the audio version of her book. Her tone is clear and precise. Her voice
filled with self-empowerment. If you know someone in need of encouragement and positive
thinking, pass this one on. They'll thank you for it. |
