Wake-Up Call
The Political Education of a 9/11 Widow

by Kristen Breitweiser

September 11, 2001 started out as a normal day but all changed at 8:45 AM when the north tower of the World Trade Center was hit by an airplane that had been hijacked by terrorists. Kristen Breitweiser did not realize the total state of chaos that existed in the streets of Manhattan until she received a call from her husband Ron, who worked on the 94th floor of the south tower. He reassured her that he was alright since it hadn’t been his building that had been hit. The call ended abruptly as she watched in horror on her own television screen a second plane approach out of nowhere and slam into the walls of the south tower. With the fiery explosion she knew immediately she had lost the love of her life.

Devastated at the loss of her soul mate Kristen knew she had to be strong for her young daughter Caroline. She  turned all her pent up rage of pain and anger into becoming one of the leading activists. She was determined to get to the bottom of what role the U.S. Government played in her husband’s death. She and three other 9/11 widows bonded together to challenge the government to establish a 9/11 commission whose purpose was to determine what events led up to that horrific day that changed the way Americans viewed freedom.

Kristen Breitweiser is a woman whom I deeply admire. She has overcome some of life’s hardest obstacles to change the world into a better place. Through this CD I was able to hear of her anguish, heartbreak, and despair, and to discover how she had the courage to go on living when it seemed her whole world had gone away. I feel that people will gain a truer appreciate for the desperation of 9/11 through this audio book. To say that it made an impact on the way I view the happenings of 9/11 is an understatement. Very highly recommended.
