The Adventures of Uncle Tom

by Thomas H. Jones
Narrated by Andrew L. Barnes

Narrator Andrew L. Barnes strikes a homerun again with this audio book from Legacy.

The Adventures of Uncle Tom, by author Thomas H. Jones is another wonderful visit to the old South. Jones was a fugitive slave, born in Wilmington, North Carolina. Uncle Tom is his account of his life’s passage from slave to free man, complete with the tragedies and triumphs that ensue.

Cincinnati narrator, Andrew L. Barnes, captures the southern sympathies in his well-seasoned baritone voice that is hard to mimic. His natural timing keeps the listener spellbound to the story and entices the reader to believe he is hearing the story for the first time told by Jones, himself.

Jones’s life pursuits are intriguing as he learns to read and write in secret and uses his keen talents and risky friendships to unite his family and free them from slavery while pursuing his own freedom. The Adventures of Uncle Tom is an interesting walk through the past when slavery was a recognized and acceptable way of life for many. Yet, Jones gives the reader a personally guided view of the tragic heroism of those who were bound in life to this ill fate.
