I had never heard of Freya Stark until I received the Advanced Reader Copy of Passionate Nomad, but upon reading it, I realized I would never forget her…

Ms. Geniesse brings America the first published biography of Freya Stark, a famous British writer and adventurer, and I put the emphasis on adventurer!  After Ms. Stark escaped the clutches of marriage in 1927, she took her first trip and never looked back, from then on she was the author of her own life.  She wrote thirty books, including four volumes of autobiographies and eight books, which were published letters. She loved exploring and discovering the little known regions of the Middle East and was made famous for some of the accomplishments she achieved while there.  The book starts out with the author listing who’s who at Ms. Stark’s funeral.  They were people she had actually met and worked with in other countries. Ms. Stark passed away at the age of 100.  But Freya didn’t spend her elderly years doing nothing, she traveled and explored up until she was ninety, she married once and was knighted at the age of eighty-two making her a Dame.

If you love adventure, writing, or know of Freya Stark you will enjoy her biography.  It is in-depth, honest and poignant.  A book and a woman I will remember.
