The High-Energy Cookbook
Good Carb Recipes for Weight Loss, Health and Vitality
By Rachel Anne Hill
Photography by Nicky Dowey

Ryland Peters & Small has done it again. Known for books of exquisite quality, this cookbook by Rachel Anne Hill does not disappoint. The recipes are easy and scrumptious and tempt even someone like me who takes little time away from the computer to cook.

Because I have been diagnosed with hypoglycemia, I am impressed with the glycemic index that Hill includes in her The High-Energy Cookbook. I also liked the way the book is broken into recipes for breakfast, lunchboxes and snacks, quick lunches and suppers, entertaining and desserts. The question and answer sidebars are fascinating, too, rather like reading Dear Abby for gourmets.

With recipes like Kickstart Kabobs (made with bananas, pineapple, oranges, prunes, apricots, honey and apple pie spice) you're going to want to keep this book for yourself.

Still, the quality of the paper and the design call out to be given as a gift. And then there's the photography by Nicky Dowey. Asparagus never, ever looked so good!
