Quick and Easy Pizza and Pasta Recipes

by Pat Bowman

I'm always on the lookout for good Italian recipes. Pizza and pasta are some of my family's favorite dishes. In Quick and Easy Pizza and Pasta Recipes, author Pat Bowman provides a collection of thirty-six recipes among dough, sauce, pizza, pasta, and calzone categories. Mr. Bowman, a professional Chef, uses his experiences from small bars, pizza places, and Italian restaurants to produce easy dishes. In the introduction, the reader is encouraged to buy fresh, top-rate ingredients for the dishes. The ingredients do not have to be expensive to be good. Since most Italian food requires lots of preparation time, this cookbook focuses on making quality dishes with quick recipes. Mr. Bowman talks of his love of the "process" of cooking: from rolling out the dough to choosing the ingredients for taste and color.

I do own several pizza and pasta cookbooks, but I think you can never have too many. This cookbook provides easy ingredients for well-known dishes, such as Traditional Deep Dish, Five Cheese and Meat Lovers' Pizza, Lasagna, Fettuccini Alfredo, and Five Cheese Calzone. The book starts with recipes for making your own pizza dough and sauces. I tried some of the recipes and found my favorites: Creamy Pesto with Grilled Chicken and Pine Nuts, Greek Pizza, and Broccoli and Cheese Calzone.

Mr. Bowman provides some advice in the introduction and in the cooking pasta section. I think some additional tips and perhaps pictures would enhance the book for less-experienced cooks. With simple ingredients and easy recipes, Quick and Easy Pizza and Pasta Recipes is a solid, starter cookbook. I recommend the book for those who want quick recipes to restaurant-style favorites.
