There are some things that seem to be put on this earth to be an unfailing source of fascination and delight for all who behold them and dinosaurs surely fit this bill.  Imagine a combination between the stunning graphics of a classic state-of-the-art comic book and textbooks of the latest findings in the filed of palaeontology and you have this wonderful book.  Deliberately designed to fill that empty space on coffee tables everywhere, this is a reissue combining the best of a work that is now considered to be a classic amongst books of natural history with additions of the latest up-to-the-minute knowledge.

For this is dinosaurs as you have never seen them before in glorious color, depicted in a style that combines the art of Marvel Comics with Arthur Rackham and Zdenek Burian.  They feed, breed, play, display, live, die and everything in between, narrated by brief snapshot essays as though observed at these activities by a hidden watcher.  Find out the longest, widest, tallest and smallest dinosaurs; see each dinosaur’s closest relations and read about the world they lived in.  It won’t tell you everything you need to know but a search on the Internet – or a visit to a library – will throw up enough material and leads to bridge any gaps in your chosen area of knowledge.  What this book will do is whet your appetite to find out more and give you a superb visual rendition of the way it all must have been.

A timely release for the Christmas market this is surely one of those books that become firm favorites with their owners.  One of my own favorites from the nonfiction books of this year this is an unfailing source of joy…what a classic.
