The Destruction of
the Inn Reviewed by: Barbara
Buhrer, MyShelf.Com The fourth installment of the Ulster cycle, this translation from Gaelic manuscripts tells the legend of Conaire, king of Eire. Raised with the sons of the king's most trusted warriors, he becomes king at the death of his father. His foster brothers, jealous because of this, raid the land, and Conaire is forced to banish them. They then join forces with raiders from England, and ultimately cause Conaire's demise. This is an absorbing story for anyone interested in Irish folklore. There are many confusing Irish names and lots of elves, fairies and magical spells. The book is replete with footnotes which provide background information on Irish mythology. |
