Stars
and Stripes Forever
The
History, Stories and Memories of our American Flag
By Richard
H. Schneider
After
the events of 9-11, American patriotism reached an all-time high.
Stars and Stripes Forever tells the history of our flag from its
origins over two hundred years ago. It tells what the first flag
was a symbol of then and what it means to a nation that is still
in mourning from our recent tragedy.
The
author, Richard H. Schneider is well qualified to present this information.
His previous works include Taps: Notes from a Nation's Heart
and Freedom's Holy Light: The Statue of Liberty.
The
true history of the Nation's flag is told and some rather well know
misconceptions are laid to rest. Did you know the first flag flown
in America was designed by Benjamin Franklin? It was a snake cut
into nine pieces with the caption, "Unite or Die," urging
the nine colonies to draw together against English oppression. The
book also discloses such little-known trivia as the states that
did not survive (Franklin, Jefferson, Klamath, Superior and Nickajack).
Also covered are many more things patriotic, such as our national
anthem, Pledge of Allegiance, and the Declaration of Independence.
At a
time when it is important for us all to know our roots, Richard
H. Schneider's book, Stars and Stripes Forever really hits
home.
