Clegg's newest is without a doubt his best. I read this one in an all-night
session, and it was well worth the loss of sleep. Harrow House is an abandoned
mansion with a long history of events beyond scientific explanation. It
was once the castle of a madman, then it was a school. It mysteriously
caught fire, burning several boys. Later, a young girl died of what appeared
to be a heart attack, but she looked as though she died of fright.
Now Ivy Martin has bought Harrow House, has had the burned school additions
removed and repairs made. Jack Fleetwood of the PSI Vista Foundation wants
to know what lurks in Harrow House. He has hired three special people
that are blessed with--or cursed with--psychic abilities to spend several
days in the mansion. He's also installed the very latest electronic equipment
to record images and sounds.
Then things begin to happen...things that can't be explained except as
paranormal phenomena, a disturbing innovation in haunted house fiction.
Clegg has developed a great cast of characters to keep you guessing to
the shocking end. The antagonistic interaction between characters is great
and builds the tension to the snapping point.
