The
Harvest
By Scott
Nicholson
Something
strange is happening in the Southern Appalachian Mountains. Tamara
Leon is being attacked by "the gloomies" - dark invisible
creatures who whisper strange words and drop frightening images
into her mind. But the whispers turn out to be warnings. Something
unearthly has moved into the town of Windshake. A creature has taken
up residence and its goal is to harvest human beings, turning them
into organisms that feed off the land - and each other.
As one
by one the town's residents become part of the life form that is
feeding on them, Tamara seeks to find a way to protect her family
and herself while she tries to understand a gift that could be a
blessing or a curse. Others join her to stop the feast before it
is too late. They must attack the source before its already recruited
minions gaze upon them with green, glowing eyes while trying to
share their horrific existence through one fatal and hellish kiss.
Scott
Nicholson has crafted a frightening story while developing memorable
and deep characters that add to the richness of his novel. Although
I enjoyed The Harvest, I still find his first foray into horror,
The Red Church, to be more satisfying - a real horror classic.
