Pamela Gardner is having a terrible time in her life. First, she is fleeing what she thinks
is a killer when she is involved in a terrible accident. As a result she has a miscarriage.
Not long after her release from the hospital she realizes that her husband has been cheating
on her. How much worse can things get?
Now Pamela is beginning to fear for her sanity. She seems to be having blackouts where she
loses long periods of time and cannot remember anything that happened during those times. Pamela
is also seeing and hearing several women no one else can see. Among them is one of her friends
who was killed violently over a year ago. She fears the killer has returned for her but
cannot remember what he looks like or why he would be after her.
Is Pamela going crazy or are the ghosts of murdered women choosing to communicate through
her? Why do they keep leaving her messages advising her to "Open the Door"?
Author AJ Matthews weaves such a convincing story that I often found myself convinced
that I had the plot and conclusion figured out. Pages later, my mind was changed and another
theory was born. This book was suspenseful and engrossing from beginning to end. I discovered
after reading Follow that AJ Mathews is a pseudonym for the horror novelist Rick
Hautala, an author that I read avidly in the past. After some consideration I can see the
similarity in the writing styles, but this book seems to follow more in the suspense mode
than in pure horror. I must say I liked the changes as my reading preferences have also changed.
