I wish I'd had this book about twelve years ago when a stray cat graced us with his presence. I was sitting in the glider on the front porch, and he "slinked" up around my legs, rubbing and purring. My first inclination was to shout "Scat!" but something prohibited me from doing so. Eleven years later when Dylan passed away, I realized it had been love at first purr.

"Living in Shadows" deals with both feral, or untamed cats, and strays. As explained by Ann K. Fisher, it's up to the individual to establish which category the feline falls into. Once that's determined, everything needed from understanding the cat, to spaying or neutering can be found in "Living in Shadows." Complete with appendix and names and address of organizations, as well as other books and resources on stray and feral cats, this book is clearly the only tool you'll ever need.

Fisher speaks from personal experience, and does so with clarity, and warmth of heart. Specific topics are wide-ranged, beginning with the origin of the cat-people relationship, and ending with long-term care.

I highly recommend this insightful book to anyone whose heart goes out to these special animals. Whether living in the suburbs, on a farm, or a crowded city, "Living in Shadows" will enable you to make a difference in the lives of cats that grace your life.
