Nixon's book is a valuable source of answers for many parenting problems associated with very young children. It is an authoritative guide for parents, early learning educators, childcare providers, and even grandparents. I raised six children, but I still learned a few neat tricks on solving some of the everyday problems associated with babies and toddlers.

What do you do with a biter? Temper tantrums are always a challenge (especially when they are public) and Nixon has some logical ideas for solving the passionate displays of your little one. The "0-5 Child Development Guide," and "Gift-Giving Key" are useful references, and the "Parent Resource Index" will help you find answers to solve other problems. She discusses potty training, how to choose the right preschool, and how to tell if your child is ready for kindergarten.

I wish I had been able to read this book when my children were babies. Life would have been much less stressful Unfortunately, first time parenthood comes to us when we are inexperienced in the art of parenting. Nixon's advice for a relaxed, confident approach to dealing with childhood problems is refreshing and reasonable. She teaches you to trust your instincts, and believe in yourself as a parent.

Brenda Nixon is Adjunct Professor of child Development and Parent Education at Mid-America Nazarene University, and a parent herself.
