Stylish & Simple Mosaic
By Emma Biggs & Tessa Hunkin

If, like me, you yearn to try your hand at this timeless and intriguing craft but have not the faintest idea where to start, then this book is going to be very useful. It is the third mosaic book that I have acquired, and the umpteenth that I have looked at and I can say that it is the best to date. Why? It manages to tell you what you need to know simply and plainly, gives a few attractive and useful projects to try and what materials you will have to get. That is about all it tells you and unless you plan to embark on some amazing project that would grace a Roman emperor's palace, then this ought to suffice. It is free of too much in-depth history on the subject, gallery shots of advanced work that lack instructions, expensive pieces of unnecessary equipment and all the other things that too many craft primers are filled with.

Learn the difference between the different types of tile and what bases to use, find out what you can also use that doesn't cost anything at all and how to choose a design to suit the size of your work. Answer the question (my main one and probably yours, too) of what to use that will be weatherproof if your project is to be outdoors, and also what to use for indoor projects. Nothing else to say, really, which is a good thing - a stylish and simple primer that I would recommend to anybody who wants to really make a mosaic.
