The author of Home Therapy is Laurie Ward, who is also the founder of the decorating
firm, Use What You Have, Inc. Ms. Ward is also the author of a previous book called
Use What You Have in Decorating.
In this book, Home Therapy she tackles many of the dilemmas of being a home
owner or even a renter. By using real stories and pictures of actual homes and problems
she has addressed, she allows the reader to step into the book and tackle similar problems
that they may have.
I love the before and after photos. Before was not often bad, but maybe cluttered or
seeming to have too much furniture in the space allowed. With Ms. Ward's suggestions, using
many diagrams, she rearranged, made a few discards, almost never purchased anything, and
came up with a completely different and stunning room.
Ms. Ward covered many aspects in her book. Upsizing was not a problem, downsizing even
less and adding a new baby to the family became a fun challenge.
I especially enjoyed the section on moving from a house to an apartment. I recently did
this and later did this in reverse and discovered that it is not all bad. Ms. Ward shows
many ways to make the move pain-free and enjoyable.
In the book, Home Therapy Ms Ward tackles 25 such problems, each using real people,
real homes and real solutions. She points out the clients' previous problems, decorating
mistakes and then helps them find reasonable solutions. She finishes each section with
the client's final reaction, which was always pleasantly surprised.
This book includes over 150 colored, before and after photos, and detailed floor plans,
one of which is sure to cover your decorating problem.
