The Healthiest Kid in the Neighborhood
Dr. Sears' Ten Ways to Get Your Family on the Right Nutritional Track

by William Sears, M.D., Martha Sears, R.N., James Sears, M.D., and Robert Sears, M.D.

This book, The Healthiest Kid in the Neighborhood, is filled with advice from Dr. William Sears, Martha Sears R.N., Dr. James Sears and Robert Sears. The tone is no-nonsense but it is definitely not condescending. The eating plan outlined in this book will help the reader make good choices that will lead to a better, healthier lifestyle and help prevent a wide array of childhood diseases including obesity, diabetes and high blood pressure, as well as mental illnesses like depression and attention deficit disorders.

This is an eating plan that has worked for the Sears’ families along with many other families. The patient testimonials, with their firsthand experiences, were great to read. Instead of labeling foods good or bad, the Sears suggest labeling healthy foods as "grow foods".

The Healthiest Kid in the Neighborhood was easy to read and to follow. Throughout the book there are helpful charts and tidbits of extra information that can be accessed at a quick glance. There are even recipes in the back of the book whose ingredients are all "grow foods". I ended up making the Cheesy Pie, and it was delicious. My husband and I are starting a family and we are excited to be able to implement these easy steps so that our whole family will be healthier.
