Many games can give us a reflection of who we really are like how we play the game can reveal how we react and deal with life’s daily situations.

Golf, which I love to play, with every swing of a club can reveal to us something about our lives. When playing, though we do everything just right, in positioning the feet, gripping the club, and keeping an eye on the ball, once hit, it doesn’t always fly the way we expect it to. As in life, no matter how hard we prepare, do our best, and play by the rules, things don’t always fall in to place like they should.

In Dorothy K. Ederer’s book A Golfer’s Day with the Master, we can glean spiritual wisdom that will help us deal with our daily tribulations of life. Such as when Freddie Tait had hit a ball and it landed in a condensed milk can. He chose to hit the can, sailing it toward the green. The can with the golf ball still in it landed on the green, and the ball rolled out right next to the hole. He didn’t let the can distract or stop him from his goal.

And as a Christian, if we are paying attention, God will give us a little treat to let us know he’s still on the job, but when we’re not, we could be like Billy Casper, when in 1959 at the Chicago Open hit a ball into the middle of a mulberry bush. Not knowing that he could take a free drop, it took Billy ten strokes to free the ball. He lost the open by three strokes.

The author is trying to tell us, as Christians, if we’ve read the rule book, the Bible, and keep in the mind the rules and regulations, even when we think we’ve miss the ball or made a bad play, God is there every step of the way.
