A
Plentiful Harvest
Creating Balance
and Harmony Through The Seven Living Virtues
By Terrie
Williams
I really
liked the format of this book, a true study guide. I believe the
intention of this book is to be a tangible item to carry with you
and provide self-help. The book is arranged into 52 weeks, a guide
to be used throughout the entire year. There is special mention
of journal time at the end of the week so the reader will be reminded
to jot down their thoughts. Ms. Williams has a way of saying things
that make you recall that you've heard that before, presented in
a different manner, which gives totally new perspective to old-hat
ideals.
The
seven living virtues, Calling, Responsibility, Thrift, Love, Community,
Spirituality and Creativity each have a section in the book. Approximately
8 weeks are spent on each of the virtues, enough time to immerse
oneself in each one. The perspective of information shared behind
the virtues is at times moving, most definitely thought- provoking
and even challenging at times. Anything that stimulates the mind
to think differently than normal has my vote. The perspective of
incorporating the 7 principles of Kwanzaa; Unity, Self Determination,
Collective Work and Responsibility, Cooperative Economics, Purpose,
Creativity and Faith is tightly woven into the virtues.
I
was most impressed with the background of the author and her obedience
to respond to her true calling. She started out in the publicity
business with world famous clients. She has woven her way through
Fortune 500 companies and the world of academia as a public speaker,
but sought out something more in her life. She took steps to yield
to harmony and satisfaction in her life and it has netted her the
gift of being able to write and share self-help guides such as A
Plentiful Harvest. I find her life fascinating and snippets
of her life are interspersed throughout the book.
I
read the book for purposes of review, but I would like to read the
book as written. A week at a time, and go though the journaling
exercises. I think it is a good use of my reading time, especially
when I seek to improve myself.
