So, You Want to be Like Christ?
Eight Essentials to Get You There
by Charles R. Swindoll
The Apostle Paul made it clear that
in order to be as close to God as one could be, one had to have discipline
and a passion for keeping that connection as strong as they can. In
Swindoll's So, You Want To Be Like Christ, the reader finds
that there are eight "essential disciplines" needed in order to follow
in the footsteps of God's greatest prophet: Intimacy, Simplicity,
Silence and Solitude, Surrender, Prayer, Humility, Self-Control, and
Sacrifice. Comparing the commitment to "being like Christ" to being
a disciplined athlete, Swindoll does his best to give his readers
a way to dig into the depths of what it takes "to be like Christ."
Never one to pass up the chance
to read a book about a religion that piqued my interest in the world
of theology, I grabbed this one up as quickly as a kid with a chocolate
chip cookie. The flow is easy to follow and Swindoll makes some
really good points about how determined and disciplined a person
would have to be in order to become more like God's only son. I
recommend this for anyone who is studying in a seminary or is just
looking for something to help them understand better the religion
that for a long time was kept "on the down low."
