Evangelism Without Additives
What if sharing your faith meant just being yourself?
by Jim Henderson
If
you're one of the majority of Christians who are uncomfortable sharing
their faith, then this is the book for you.
As
a pastor and a seeker, Jim Henderson has been conducting
man-on-the-street research on why average Christians who love
the Lord struggle so with sharing their faith.
Just
like Jesus, he uses unusual means to research his subject, including
interviewing "those Jesus misses most," his term
for those previously known as "lost," to see how
they feel about Christians.
If
you let him, Mr. Henderson will change your view of "the lost,"
removing the barrier that exists between "us and them."
He
asks pertinent questions, and has, I believe, hit the nail squarely
on the head, saying that we don't have to (and should not) become
someone we are not, in order to share our faith.
In
fact, he goes on to say that in our high-tech, fast-paced society,
what is needed is the ability to be real, to listen along
with "free attention giveaways." By this he means
that connecting in even the most insignificant but sincere way (which
he calls "ordinary attempts") can change a person's worldview
to where he believes God might actually like him.
According
to Evangelism Without Additives there are only
a few essential qualifications for soul-winners--
They
must:
"Be
themselves."
"Be
human."
"Be
normal."
"Be
real."
"Be
intentional."
Imagine
that, folks. Not having to get out of our comfort zones after all
those "Go get'em” sessions on soul-winning.
This
reviewer found this book to be invaluable and refreshing, a true
treasure, mimicking the methods of relating actually used by
Christ when he walked the earth.
This
is one book I will read and re-read, reminding myself to look for
opportunities to simply connect, relating to those Jesus misses
most, because he said "a cup of cold water" is more than
enough.
An
absolute must-read.
