Miracles of Motherhood
Prayers and poems for a new mother
by June Cotner
It can be hard to find just the right gift for a new mother, but this emotional and touching book of poems and
prayers is sure to be a hit. All of the mixed emotions surrounding pregnancy, birth, and motherhood are explored
thoughtfully and beautifully in this little volume. New mothers are sure to smile, cry, and laugh as they read
each page. A particularly good poem will touch a chord with all parents, not just mothers. It’s a prayer
called "For Sleep" which includes the beautiful line, "sing me a soft, old song/whose words promise/that you will
stay beside the bed/of my exhaustion/until safe in your arms". There are also heartfelt poems that pertain to
adoptive mothers as well: "Someone else/ could be holding this bundle". Every mother is sure to find at least
one poem that expresses her own feelings perfectly. And for mothers who scrapbook, they are sure to find some
wonderful quotes to accompany their pictures, including part of my favorite poem: "As you begin your journey/I
can see my reflection in your eyes/Every time you smile/I know my heart beats because of you." |
