Hanukkah is the Jewish holiday that is celebrated around the same time as the Christian holiday of Christmas. A Shamash, or helper candle, is used to light each candle on the Menorah to celebrate the freedom to worship their one God instead of the Greek gods they were made to more than 2000 years ago.

This book illustrates the customs of Hanukkah in a way that's easy for children to understand. The illustrations help the reader see what goes on when a family celebrates this beloved holiday. There are definitions in the back of the book to inform the reader what each of the customary objects are and the story of how Hanukkah came about. There's even a part on the definitions page to help the reader pronounce Hanukkah correctly!

This is a great book for any parent who wants to teach their children what Hanukkah is and how it is celebrated. The illustrations are full-page captions of the family participating in the celebration of Hanukkah. I definitely recommend this book for younger kids as a great bedtime story.
