Leo has a problem. He
is the littlest lightning bug of all - and his light doesn't work! He
is very frustrated - and it doesn't help that the other lightning bugs
- Larry, Lester, and Louise - are laughing at him!
Leo feels so small,
but his mother tells him that his name, Leo, means "lion." "Inside,
you're as big and brave as a lion!" she tells him.
Leo doesn't feel like
a lion, but he decides to keep trying to be all that a lightning bug should
be.
LEO THE LIGHTNING BUG
is a delightful book that tells children not to give up, even if they
have to keep trying and trying. Another lesson that this book teaches
is that anger is not the way to respond when other people tease you. When
Leo has the chance to make fun of Lester, even though Lester has been
part of a group that has been poking fun at him, he refuses to do so,
and instead, turns a bad situation around, gaining some new friends. What
a great lesson for children!
The book comes with
super illustrations and an entertaining CD, which can be played while
a child reads along. The narration is well done, with wonderful background
noises. The voice of Leo on the CD made me smile. In fact, this whole
book made me smile. LEO THE LIGHTNING BUG offers children some important
lessons along with an entertaining and charming story.
