Alice’s Journey Beyond The Moon
By R J Carter

Everybody knows about Wonderland and the Looking Glass, but what other strange and wonderful lands might Alice also visit? Making use of the body of writing Lewis Carroll bequeathed to the world, R. J. Carter imagines how Alice might get to the moon, and what she might find once there.

This is a dish made using existing ingredients, and perhaps it is not surprising (nor disappointing) to find that the characters in the story are variations on the ones Carroll uses in his own Alice stories. Nor that they get up to similar things, complete with nonsense rhymes derived from Victorian “improving” verses and numerous word plays. Of course it isn’t anything like the classics that we know and love so much, but to children wanting to hear more of Alice’s adventures, and any adults who also do, this little book is entertaining and reasonably erudite. Replete with notes linking parts of the story to things from Carroll’s journals, and illustrated throughout (of course) by a contemporary illustrator, this makes an ideal gift for lovers of Alice or any age.
