The Best Halloween Ever
By Barbara Robinson

Performed by Elaine Stritch

The Herdmans. Those two words alone are enough to make every kid and teacher in Woodrow Wilson school shiver and race for a place to hide. They ruin EVERYTHING, but this time, it's gone too far. After piling EIGHT KIDS into the revolving door of the bank, replacing the anchovies on pizzas with guppies, replacing the kindergarten's pet mice with guinea pigs, ruining Flag Day by stealing the flag, Arbor Day by stealing the tree, and everything else they've done. It was all of that and then some that made the mayor CANCEL HALLOWEEN! Now, they don't have to worry about the Herdman's taking all the kids' candies, tearing up front yards, setting things on fire, breaking open the cages at the animal shelter and letting all the dogs loose, or doing something else destructive or annoying, but now Beth, her younger brother Charlie, and their classmates have a DIFFERENT kind of Halloween to fear...one at SCHOOL! What will happen this year? Has Mr. Crabtree, their principle, finally lost it, trying to throw a party for a holiday that he's always despised? Will the Herdmans do anything to the school party, or will the townspeople finally have a chance to have a "Herdman-free" Halloween?

I LOVE THIS AUDIOBOOK!!! It's a great sequel to "The Best School Year Ever"! Beth, Charlie, their parents, and their friends are put through day after day of chaos, confusion, and torture provided totally by the Herdmans. I love Robinson's no-nonsense writing style, making it easier for her listeners to get deep inside the mind of a girl who lives in what can only be called the strangest, most insanely hysterical town to ever exist.

Elain Stritch was the narrator for "The Best School Year Ever", and I can't say HOW HAPPY I was when I saw that she was the narrator for this one as well. She's done an INCREDIBLE job bringing Beth and her friends to life.
