I Am the Turkey
An
I Can Read Series
By Michele Sobel
Spirn
Illustrated by Joy Allen
Mark
hurries to class. The class is having a play and he wants to be
one of the important characters. Mark becomes the “Class Turkey”
for the play. When he tells his family, his brother makes him feel
like a “Dead Duck.” Even worse, his only lines for the
play are “Gobble! Gobble! Gobble!" How depressing! How
embarrassing! What’s a kid to do? Mark comes up with an idea
to get out of the play. Does he get away with it? You’ll have
to read the story to find out.
Spirn
writes about a subject kids can identify with: a school play. To
liven things up, she adds a little twist. The result is a fun story
that will have young readers groaning with Mark as they cheer him
on. I Am the Turkey is Joy Allen’s first "I
Can Read Book.” Her illustrations are minimal, with a color
pencil effect. They go perfectly with the easy-to-read sentences.
