The Magic Shades
Fortune
Tellers Club, No. 3
By Dotti Endele
I enjoyed
the first two Fortune Teller's Club books about three best friends
who get together to peer into the future -- but this one really
demonstrated the author's ability to bring some thematic depth to
the series. Gina is the constant clown of the three-girl club, so
when she finds a pair of sunglasses that let her see the future,
she's afraid no one will take her seriously. How can Gina use the
things she sees to save the people she loves? Can she trust her
eyes? I enjoyed the tension in this book; the stakes were high and
the book paid off with just the right balance of seriousness and
playfulness. The book also looked at some serious and scary "real
life" concerns -- single parents dating and the realization
that parents can get sick -- even very sick. I enjoyed seeing Gina
in a "starring role" -- I hope to see more of her again!
All in all, the best meeting of the club so far.
