The Midnight Horse
By Sid Fleischman

Illustrations by Peter Sis

Touch is a young orphan in search of himself. Is he a jinx? Did his father leave him a legacy? Where will he end up? He ends up in the Crinklewood, the home of “216 Fine Folks & 1 Infernal Grouch.” Touch immediately makes friends with two of the fine folks. Unfortunately, the infernal grouch is Touch’s dastardly great uncle, who most decidedly does not want Touch to receive his legacy. It takes brains, magic, and a whimsical ghost to save the day for Touch and his new friends. The characters in this book are totally Sid Fleishman – eccentric and unique. The Peter Sis illustrations add spooky fun with Great-Uncle Wiggleforth looking amazingly like Beetle Juice. This book is fast paced and delightful, a great enticement for a reluctant reader.
