More Perfect than the Moon
By Patricia MacLachlan

Read by Glenn Close

Cassie is the daughter of Sarah (from Sarah Plain and Tall). Cassie is a curious child. She likes to secretly watch people, to observe what they’re doing and create stories about them in her journal. For instance, when Cassie sees her step-brother Caleb talking to a girl, she makes up a fancy fairy tale about them and their life together. Caleb doesn't think it's interesting, but Grandpa and Father do.

The only person she can't spy on is Grandpa. He always knows when she's around. Cassie tells Grandpa and Caleb about watching her mother. Mother wakes up late. She acts odd and doesn't even come up to kiss Cassie goodnight anymore. Cassie is sure her mother is sick and she's worried.

One day, Father takes Mother to the doctor. Cassie deals with it by writing a happy story in her journal about her mother's return and how well and happy she will be, and how she'll bring Cassie the perfect gift, "more perfect than the moon."

Will Sara come home happy and healthy? Will her news change their lives forever? Cassie keeps a journal with all her emotions in it, good and bad. Cassie discovers it's the perfect way to get through changes, even the ones she doesn't like.

More Perfect than the Moon is a perfect addition to the Sarah Plain and Tall series. It's a book for the young-at-heart as well as the young. Cassie may live in another era, but her emotions and reactions are timeless. Young readers will have no problem identifying with her and her family.

Actress Glenn Close's gentle voice guides young listeners through a sweet tale about life, love, changes and acceptance.
