One Candle
By Eve Bunting
Illustrated by K. Wendy Popp
"I
love all our holidays when we're together like this. But maybe
I love Hanukkah most of all."
A
young Jewish girl shares the first night of Hanukkah with readers.
Every year, her family arrives to share delicious food and conversation.
After dinner grandma and great-aunt Rose share the story of a bad
time during this good time. Their story is haunting and sad. In
the beautiful illustrations by Popp, the ghosts of their young friends
watch on. With the potato she brought, Grandma shows her family
how she, Rose and the other young girls in the Holocaust camp celebrated
a night of Hanukkah. It's a touching story, told in a gentle way.
The illustrations are beautiful. They complete the story.
Eve
Buntingis is an award winning author. She has written more than
