Playing With Fire
Fortune Tellers Club, No. 2
By Dotti Endele

Anne Donovan has a crush on the new boy in school -- but is he a little too hot for her? It seems anyone who spends too much time around Eric feels the heat -- fires, fever blisters, and just plain fevers. The Fortune Tellers Club sets out to discover if Eric wields some kind of paranormal power over fire and their final cure for the problem is laugh out loud funny. Enderle does a good job of laying out the clues in Playing with Fire, the second book of the Fortune Tellers series, and keeps readers guessing right up to the end. It isn't a deep book filled with life lessons but it is lively and page turning with plenty of tension to keep fans hooked to the very end. I also appreciated the way Enderle avoided the "what has gone before" recap that becomes a wearying part of several popular middle grade series -- this is a book that can stand and be enjoyed alone.
