Yankee Doodle
Sing Along Stories
By Mary Ann Hoberman
Illustrated by Nadine Westcott

Hoberman and Westcott have paired up for yet another great sing-along story. The end papers feature the music to the rousing march, several games to play with the song, and macaroni in abundance. The story starts out with the traditional verse and chorus to Yankee Doodle and then Hoberman gets creative with new verses to the old favorite. As Yankee Doodle rides his pony through the countryside, he meets a girl "A-walking with a poodle," a toad, and an old rooster "A-singing cock-a-doodle." Before long, the pony is loaded with riders who decide to pool their talents and open a restaurant. Yankee Doodle's Noodles serves lots of macaroni.

Westcott's bright, zany illustrations will keep the kids laughing as they chant the exciting verses of the song....and don't forget to sing the chorus after each verse!

Hoberman is a genius at making old children's songs all new again with her captivating, witty rhymes. Be sure to look for other Hoberman/Westcott sing along stories. This would add lots of family fun to your Fourth of July picnic, or any child's party.
