A City Christmas Tree
by Rebecca Bond
The Christmas tree man has come to Liberty Street, and he brings along with him all the
wonder of family and Christmas. One little girl spots the perfect tree and dreams her dreams
of A City Christmas Tree. Then she brings each family member to view the tree and
add their dreams until the day that her parents come out and the perfect Christmas tree
comes home with them, bringing all of their dreams to life. This lovely little book has
some of the most lyrical prose I've read in some time. As I was reading it to my daughter,
she said, "This book reads beautifully." A few pages later, when we opened to a tall spread
with an angel on top, she added, "The pictures are beautiful, too." And as we danced around
the tree with the happy family, she whispered, "I just love this book." I loved it too.
The book includes just enough repetition to make it sing, but not so much that parents
grow weary in repeat readings. The text dances in your mouth - making it a delight to
read aloud. And the soft, yet lively illustrations remind us of the best things of
Christmas. I really can't recommend this one enough. |
