Danitra Brown Class Clown
by Nikki Grimes
Illustrated by E.B. Lewis
This is the third in the picture book series about Danitra Brown and her best friend Zuri
Jackson. As always Danitra is an irrepressible extravert while Zuri is introverted and
thoughtful. Shown through a collection of poems by Nikki Grimes, Danitra approaches the
new school year as a grand adventure, while Zuri worries. But as always, the one thing Zuri
need never worry about is Danitra's friendship. Though barreling through life at top speed,
Danitra is ever supportive of her best friend. As with the other two Danitra books, friendship
is the heart and soul of this one, and readers will laugh with and love bold Danitra and
hesitant Zuri. E.B. Lewis' illustrations do a wonderful job of bringing Danitra's energy
to life. Danitra is an ever posing wonder-child while Zuri is often shown with eyes closed,
self-contained and ever pondering. I heartily recommend all three Danitra books for their
beauty and their wisdom. |
