Flight of the DoDo
by Peter Brown
Penguin is plagued by an issue that has been common nature since the
beginning of time-the fact that he is a Waddler and will never know
what it's like to fly. After a mis-aimed goose- pooping incident that
left Penguin's jacket very messy, he's bound and determined to find
a way for himself and the other Waddlers to experience the amazing
experience of soaring through the sky.
After tons
of experimenting, they create a balloon they dub "The DoDo." With
the aid of the wind and their new gear, the Waddlers set out to
show the Flyers that they, too, can enjoy the experience of flying
and prove that target poop can be quite impressive, if done correctly.
When I was
handed this book, I immediately knew by the cover art that I was
in trouble, and I was right. Flight of the DoDo is a hilarious
story about a group of birds, cursed by nature to never know the
exuberance of flying, who do everything in their power to prove
all the naysayers wrong. The story is humorous to the point of near
suffocation and the illustrations make it even harder for even the
most talented of laughers to breathe. I highly recommend this book
to anyone, both young and old.
