In Style with Grandma Antoinette
Author/Illustrator: Judith Caseley
If you've got a girlie girl around your house, In Style with Grandma Antoinette will
be a sure hit. In this bright picture book, Rosie has to spend the day at work with her
Grandmother and she's expecting a boring time. Instead, Rosie finds that a day at the beauty
salon is filled with action, excitement - and even a mystery to be solved. My daughter
loved the way the book asked her to choose what make-up, hair color, and hair styles she
liked best. She also found the solution to the "mystery" to be totally giggle worthy.
I enjoyed seeing a young, fashionable grandmother with bright red hair - it's a nice change
from the traditional grey-haired cookie baker. I did have to pause to explain things like
waxing to my six-year-old daughter (as well as breaking the news that she can not have
a dye job), but it was a pleasure to read a book that let us interact in pure girl talk.
There are no huge themes - just a lively adventure in a unique setting - but definitely
fun. |
