Invasion of the Boy Snatchers
A Clique Novel
by Lisi Harrison
In this fourth visit with the Pretty Committee, the clique is facing a stiff challenge -
Alicia’s underdressed, over-sexed cousin Nina is visiting and there is nothing she won’t
do to become the queen of school. Massie can’t let something like that pass, especially
when Nina sets her sights on boyfriends. I found Invasion of the Boy Snatchers much
more enjoyable than the last Clique novel. Nina was an excellent villain and it was great
fun to hate her. The mystery element of the book -who is stealing everything that
isn’t nailed down?- could not have been more obvious, but the ending was immensely satisfying.
As in the last book, the Clique does not model the kind of behavior you’d like to see
in your daughter (though they are wonderfully innocent, with each girl hoping for
her first kiss). In Boy Snatchers, the characters’ actions seemed better motivated
and much more real. Also, this book has far more wit and giggle-worthy humor throughout
it. There’s even a funny poke at the Gossip Girls that made me laugh out loud. It’s just
possible that Claire, the sweet girl I liked from the last Clique novel, is rubbing off
on the others. There may be hope for these girls yet. At any rate, this novel is a fast
and fun girlie read. |
