Lights Out, Todd
Toddworld
by Todd Parr
This book is part of a series taken straight from the Toddworld TV program on TLC, so all
of these books are going to be surprisingly wordy for fans of Todd Parr's spare prose.
Each story has a definite plot focused on teaching the reader. In Lights Out, Todd,
the lesson is that everyone is afraid of something, but friends can help you overcome your
fears. If you missed getting the lesson from the story itself, Todd helpfully recaps it
for you at the end. The book lacks Parr's brash (but brief) life lessons from his past
picture books - Drink milk! Keep your underwear out of the freezer! - and goes for the
more preschool TV style of lecturing the reader. Still, my five-year-old loves the show
and loved the book. The book also contains stickers, which made it the ultimate great
book as far as she was concerned. So, if you have a child who's a bit afraid of the dark,
loves stickers, and loves Toddworld on TV, this book will soon be a favorite. It's a manageable
read-aloud length and would make a great bedtime story. |
