Little
Brown Bear and the Bundle of Joy
By
Jane Dyer
Little
Brown Bear wants to know what's making her parents so busy. What's
this "little bundle of joy" they're talking about? Little
Brown Bear sets out to find out, asking animal neighbors and meeting
their little bundles of joy. Each bundle seems a little too noisy,
a little too boring, and a little too stinky for Little Brown Bear.
Thankfully a wise, and oddly dressed frog helps Little Brown Bear
see that there are good things about having babies around. The illustrations
for this book are soft and very sweet. Some of the clothing looks
a bit odd on the baby bundles -- the foal seemed especially strained
-- but I was so delighted by a little sheep dog in a blue romper
and a great Mommy sheep in shorts that I forgave the odd bumps.
My five-year-old daughter liked the book, especially since she already
knew what a little bundle of joy was -- she liked being one up on
Little Brown Bear. And the parents' reassurance that Little Brown
Bear will always be their big bundle of joy makes this a great book
for parents getting ready to add a new baby to a toddler's life.
