Mr. George and the Red Hat
by Stephen Heigh
Mr. George and the Red Hat by Stephen Heigh is one of the first books by KRBY Creations,
a new publisher that is seeking out the work of fine artists and illustrators. Heigh is a
commercial and fine art painter and has won awards from American Artist Magazine and the
coveted Louie Award from the International Greeting Card Association.
The story for Mr. George and the Red Hat was a one Heigh had made up on the
spot one night to tuck in his daughter. It was a simple tale of Mr. George, the Squirrel,
finding a red doll's hat and first trying to figure out whose it is and then wondering
what he could use it for. Ultimately, Mr. George gives it to a mother bird who needs a
nest. This sweet story of kindness is beautifully illustrated with acrylic paintings
on canvas. There is even a bow to Rodin's "The Thinker" in one pose by Mr. George.
I found the story heart-warming and the illustrations were rich in realistic detail.
Mr. George and the Red Hat would be a great choice to read to any young child, and
great fun for early readers.
Another plus, Mr. George and the Red Hat was sent in a plastic slipcover to
protect the book jacket. |
