Book 1:
Bernie Bridges is the hotshot bad boy at the Rotten School. The problem is that there
is one guy who threatens Bernie's position on a daily basis-his arch rival, Sherman Oaks-
and when Sherman acquires a new technologically advanced watch that's solid gold, Bernie
knows he's got to get his hands on it before he loses his rightful place as the top of the
top at Rotten School. With the help of his buddies of Rotten House, he sets up a challenge:
a blueberry pie-eating contest. It's Bernie's man against Sherman's man, and the prize is
the watch. Will Bernie win his bet or will he lose his status at the school, as well as
his chance to stay at the school he's grown to love?
Book 2:
Bernie gets a package in the mail. He thinks it's the flat-screen TV he had been begging
his parents for. He never would've guessed it would end up being his bulldog, Gassy, and
his parrot. Not wanting to lose his best friends because his parents can't keep them, Bernie
sets out to pull the biggest undercover smuggling in the school's history, and in the
process, gets into the worst fix he's ever been in and with the one guy he'd never want
to be at the mercy of: Sherman Oaks.
R. L. Stine has always been a favorite among children and teens. We've all read some,
if not all of the Goosebumps series, and to own a children's comedy series like Rotten
School is absolutely incalculable. I love the characters and the odd names like Principle
I. Will Upchuck. The plots are hilarious and full of adolescent fun. You'd be rotten not
to get your hands on these two books, either in hard copy or audio. The Rotten School
series is fabulously hilarious and unrelentingly addictive.
Michael McKean, best known as "Lenny" on Laverne & Shirley, has starred in over 50 films
and gives this audio book set the extra bit of humor that only a comedy genius like him
could add. Using his talents at voice impressions, he creates a voice for each character
and makes it difficult to not remember there's only one man doing the narrating. I hope
he's kept on for the rest of the Rotten School series when they're put on audio.
