Santa Baby
by Janie Bynum
Santa Baby is a picture book adaptation of a Christmas Song that's been recorded
by a host of singers, including Eartha Kitt and Madonna - but you don't need to know the
song to enjoy the book. Unlike some song-to-book adaptations, this one works delightfully
as picture book text - especially when matched to Janie Bynum's bright illustrations. I
have to admit to being a long time Janie Bynum fan - her illustrations always contain so
much warmth and whimsy. In Santa Baby, the pictures tell the story of Christmas
Eve with a happy, rambunctious baby who loves poking around the tree, wrapping presents
(as only tape-loving babies can), making cookies, and cuddling - lots of cuddling. Bynum
creates some especially delightful illustrations posing the question - is it Santa, or
Santa Daddy bearing his burden of gifts? The cheerful illustrations and cozy family
moments make this a great book to share with your little ones - and you even get the
sheet music printed on the inside back cover so you have the choice of reading the book
or singing it! Whichever way you share it - it's a charmer. |
