Snowbaby Could Not Sleep
by Kara LaReau
Illustrated by Jim Ishikawa
Snowbaby is having trouble falling asleep - he gets a new blanket of snow, a nice icy drink,
but nothing helps. But Snowmama and Snowpapa do not give up, and they use a bit of themselves
to create something that finally helps. I found the storyline very sweet, and my six-year-old
review assistant loved the solution Snowmama and Snowpapa came up with. Still, I had trouble
seeing this as a book we would read over and over. The plot is very simple but it takes
rather a lot of pages to unfold - and the snowmen look a bit unbalanced with their skinny
legs and tiny feet, but I found the Snowbaby very sweet tucked in his bed. And I enjoyed
the little "extras" that sometimes appeared in the illustrations - like the penguin delivering
a drink and tooting his horn. Overall, I liked Snowbaby Could Not Sleep, but I didn't love it. |
