Who's Your Best Friend
Toddworld
by Todd Parr
In Who's Your Best Friend, all of Todd's friends want to be his best friend. Todd
knows that choosing any one will hurt the others' feelings, so what should he do? Right
-- have more than one best friend. As in the other books in this series taken directly
from episodes of the TV series, this book recaps the "lesson" at the end. The whole "best
friend" debate seems a little old for the readership, since preschoolers are often pretty
comfortable with having dozens of best friends, but it's not a bad idea to inoculate readers
early for school, where competitive friendship really is a frequent issue. The book contains
some of Parr's bright whimsical characters in sticker form, which delighted my daughter.
She used the stickers to make a Todd Parr story of her own, so these stickers really do
expand the creative play of the books. Long time fans of Parr's picture books should be
aware that this series is much wordier than any of his previous works and would probably
make for a rather squirmy read-aloud time with younger children. If your kids love the
TV series, they are sure to love the books. |
