Wish You Were Here
Toot & Puddle
by Holly Hobbie
Toot is off to the wilds of Borneo. He's looking for adventure and exotic plants. Cousin
Opal arrives to keep Puddle company. Toot meets some wild pigs and finds a hairy indigo
mud lily, but when he gets stung, he catches the violet virus and heads home. When Toot
arrives, Opal and Puddle meet a pig of a different color. What can they do to make Toot
feel pink and healthy again?
Toot and Puddle are engaging characters. Their adventures are minimal, yet entertaining.
This story is short in length, but the unusual subject and made-up words, like "Slimecap
Stinkhorn" and "Violet Virus," make it seem bigger than life. The illustrations are shy
of detail, but have enough color and humorous scenes to earn plenty of smiles.
The Toot and Puddles series is destined to be as acclaimed as Winnie the Pooh, Babar
the Elephant, and Curious George. |
