Buster and the Great Swamp
Postcards from Buster

by Author/Illustrator: Marc Brown

This book is part of the early reader series based on Marc Brown's PBS series Postcards from Buster. The series and the books feature Arthur's best buddy on his trips all over the United States with his dad. The series blends animation with live action sequences to teach kids about geography and world cultures. Buster and the Great Swamp is a Level 2 reader with large, clear type and short, two-sentence paragraphs. The simple plot features Buster's hunt for a swamp monster in a Louisiana bayou. My six-year-old daughter loved the idea of going on a monster hunt. Interspersed with the storyline, were short postcards from Buster to his friends about his trip. Buster's enthusiasm and imagination make him a favorite with kids, and the book offers a nice peek at an area of the United States that most kids don't see. Overall - good education and good fun.
