Buster Hunts for Dinosaurs
Postcards from Buster
by Author/Illustrator: Marc Brown
Marc Brown's PBS series Postcards from Buster features Arthur's best buddy on his
trips all over the United States with his dad. They blend animation with live action sequences
to teach kids about geography and world cultures. These books bring that same learning experience
to beginning readers. This Level 1 reader has bright pictures and large clear type, but this
isn't for the reader who is still working out "the fat cat sat" - these pages often have
two or three sentences with such challenging words as "monument" and "diplodocus." Still,
my six year old flew through the book and loved the real photos of dinosaur models, skeletons
and fossil footprints. Plus, she loves Buster. His enthusiasm for everything he sees is
definitely infectious. Another nice feature of the book is that part of the text is given
as "postcards" written by Buster to his friends, thus encouraging letter writing. So
for parents looking for another good book for young readers - there's a lot to like here. |
